Eoin Breadon Glass
Galloglaigh #1
Hot Sculpted, blown, slumped and engraved glass
These were a mercenary warrior elite among the Gaelic-Norse clans residing in the Western Isles of Scotland and the Scottish highlands from the mid 13th century to the end of the 18th century. They were a staple of the Scottish and Irish wars and often were selected by the Irish chieftain to serve as a personal bodyguard in conflict because as a foreigner they were less likely to be influenced by local feuds and influences. The title of gallóglaigh, or gallowglass, is an Irish Gaelic word that translates to “foreign soldier.”
